7 Best Musical Crossovers Ever

7. Eminem & Dido - Stan/Thank You

After releasing The Slim Shady LP, Eminem was already rising into something of a cult phenomenon. But it was Stan which delivered him into full-on mainstream approval.

Thanks to the involvement of Dido (specifically, using samples from her soothingly yearnful Thank You), Stan became one of the first songs to help the rap genre cross the threshold of niche enjoyment into universal acceptance. It was pop-rap. Prap, if you will.

The track's a bit of a masterpiece. Reflectively penned, Eminem's lyrics represent one of the most poignantly pensive explorations of overzealous fanaticism towards illy-deified pop idols, with Dido's contribution providing not only the hook, but also a balladic quality which elevates what might otherwise be a thoughtful rap diatribe into an emotional tour de force. The cracking music video helped, too.

In an era of YouTube stars and Twitter followers, Stan remains remarkably relevant even to this day, not to mention just as catchy.
