8 Wildly Popular Songs That Are Utter Nonsense

By Joshua Foster /

8. Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice

Let's face it: whether you like it or not, "Ice Ice Baby" is a cult classic. Once a song that was viewed by the general public as "Awesome," it continues to breathe new life generation after generation now due to its legendary status as "Awesomely Bad." There's no shame in admitting that you can probably recite most of this song acapella, because everybody knows this song. Most newborn children come out of the womb reciting this song. If you think only the general public can be to blame for the popularity of this song you are dead wrong. This song was praised by critics for "helping diversify hip hop by introducing it to a mainstream audience". You think that's bad? This song holds the legendary status of being the first hip hop single to ever top the billboard charts. The basis of the song itself is a white guy who's real name is "Robert Van Winkle" convincing you he's "gangsta". For a short period of time Vanilla Ice seemed to have had several people convinced until he was outed as a total fraud. It's okay, though, because he later went on to bring "Ice Ice Baby" to a whole new generation by convincing people he was totally "Metal."
