Remember Complicated and Sk8r Boi, now firm favourites for singalongs at cheesy noughties music nights? The Canadian songstress had a knack for blending alternative rock and pop into an enticingly moody mix. Towards the end of the album, My World taps into Lavignes upbringing in Napanee, in particular earning money by cutting grass and frying chicken (Napanee was formerly the headquarters of Dixie Lee Fried Chicken). Its the typical angst of any teenager confined to a small town; that longing for excitement and action that you just dont get when youre all alone in the lands of forever.In that way, Napanee is like any other town bursting with young people, except this one gave us one of the 21st centurys most intriguing popstars that divides opinion.
