Anthrax, at this time, were seen as the joker in the Thrash pack. Never ones to take themselves too seriously either lyrically or onstage, they had songs that were based on comic books, Horror movies and funny phrases etc. This approach meant that their darker moments really stood out. The fact that they had a classically trained vocalist, in classic rock fan Joey Belladonna, did them no harm in having their own identity as well. Made up of Italian New Yorkers, Anthrax always seemed to have such a, gang of brothers mentality that was infectious. Guitar player Scott Ian is hailed as one of the best rhythm players in rock music, let alone Thrash Metal and his mid range crunchy guitar tone perfectly sums up how Thrash metal guitar should sound. This album had the HUGE hit Indians, that MTV rung plenty of airtime out of. That in 2008, the classic line up reformed and played this record in its entirety shows what a truly great album this is.
