Facebook : http://www.facebook.com/billyvincentmusic Website : http://www.billyvincent.co.uk/ Billy Barratt and David Vincent co-front a band. That band is called Billy Vincent. Their debut album She is set for release in April. What we have here is the debut single from that album which goes by the name of Bottle Top, and its backed by b side track The Raleigh Burner Song. So, theyre not great with naming things, but thats ok. Where they appear to be putting all that excess effort, that would otherwise go into naming things, is into crafting quietly poignant folk songs. The first of the pair is just that; a delicate love song backed by modern folk accompaniment, that rises and falls as it swells all the way through. Its a subtle and emotional grower, though the chorus is instantly infectious. With repeated listens the intricacies of the textured instrumentation really comes forward, though the stand out point each time is the strength of the vocal performance. http://youtu.be/mpBLDmciG1w B sides are more often than not, throw away and not a patch on the a side, though this one gives it a run for its money. A much subtler affair with a sparse and restrained arrangement around the vocal, and you can see why, this is a story first and a song second. Childhood love and childhood heartbreak is our theme, and the lyrics and song itself capture it quite beautifully. Theyve a couple of EPs under their belt and theyve clearly been used to find themselves and hone that for the album. Its not necessarily anything new but theres clearly plenty of talent on display here, in the music but especially in the vocals of both front men. Itll be nice to hear them playing off against each other within songs on the album. If youre fond of emotionally affecting and modern folk, then this single is out March 26th with the album following in April. Definitely worth looking into.
