Florence Welch: Her 10 Best Songs

4. Dog Days Are Over

As I wrote earlier, this was the song that hooked me, never mind the video that was remade for this, stick with the original; it's the essence of what Florence is all about. Allow me to ignore 'Kiss with a fist', because this is where she really started, big arrangements, songs of longing and hope, with a dash of sadness added for good measure. The video is completely weird, almost like a happy version of 'The Wicker Man'. The reason that I'm identifying this as Florence's ground zero moment is because everything that makes her wonderful is in place €“ big drums, huge voice and an identity that shows how different she is. This is her most used song in TV shows and it's easy to see why €“ it's such an uplifting, life affirming song you cannot help but have a smile on your face whilst listening to it. It's too slow a build for the dance floor, but is perfect to leap in your living room. So have a listen and do just that.
