At the American Music Awards in 1990, then-guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan were tasked with accepting any and all awards the band won that night. It seemed like a simple enough assignment. Show up, get some free food, accept any and all awards by saying a few nice things. The problem is, Slash and Duff got loaded (coincidentally, Loaded would later be the name of a McKagan's band, post-GNR). Both times they showed up on stage, they were noticeably drunk, and gave censors fits by swearing up a storm. They even went so far as to bring their booze on stage at one point.
