Kiss: 10 Awesome ‘70’s Songs You’ve Never Heard

By Reverend Rock /

7. "Sweet Pain" From Destroyer, 1976

Choosing a hidden gem from this album is a bit of a difficult task €“ it was after all the breakthrough that the band needed to capitalize on the success of €œAlive€ and much of its contents are familiar to even casual fans. This track was the b-side of the hugely successful single €œShout it Out Loud€ and is a Simmons penned tune with S&M overtones, proof yet again that Kiss was once €œR€ rated. The track €œFlaming Youth€ deserves an honourable mention but its release as a (relatively unsuccessful) single disqualifies it from being considered a deep track €“ please feel free to disagree if you feel so inclined.

6. "Take Me" From Rock N Roll Over, 1976

After what some viewed as the strange marriage between producer Bob Ezrin and Kiss on Destroyer (with all of its oddities), the band returned to a stripped down hard rock sound for this next release. €œTake Me€ sounds like what might have naturally progressed from the €œDressed to Kill€ sessions, the studio album preceding Destroyer. Penned by Stanely with help from an outside writer, this is penultimate €˜70€™s Kiss, high energy, hard rockin€™ and highly memorable€ The song€™s opening lyric is classic: €œPut your hand in my pocket and grab onto my rocket€€ is there a cheesier line in all of rock history? It's hard not to love it.
