Hot on the tail of news that Chris Moyles will leave Radio 1 at the end of September, vacating the Breakfast Show slot he has held for eight and a half years, the BBC have announced that Nick Grimshaw will take over the show. The radio and TV presenter, who currently presents the late evening show, at the station as well as co-hosting Sunday night slot with Annie Mac, has been named as the surprise choice to takeover the flagship slot, after favourite Greg James, who took took over the Radio 1 drive time show from Scott Mills back in February was overlooked for the appointment. 27-year-old Grimshaw, who balances his radio work with presenting duties on Channel 4's T4 programming will take over when Moyles steps down in September, as the BBC seek to target a younger demographic. His experience in youth presenting is said to have helped his cause greatly. Grimshaw was unveiled as the new Breakfast Show host in a Radio 1 Newsbeat bulletin at 10.30am this morning, and as yet there is no news on either the length or value of his deal. He joined Radio 1 back in 2005, fronting youth-strand Switch and his current late night midweek show offers €œfuture pop with a night-time twist€. The news follows current Breakfast Show presenter Chris Moyles' announcement this morning that he and the team, featuring long-time collaborator "Comedy" Dave Vitty will move on before the end of their current contract which expires in 2014. There is currently no news of what Moyles plans next in broadcasting, but we can expect an update in the near future.
