11. Swamp Song Interludes

While the songs on What's the Story are marvelously produced, the whole record still feels like an impromptu jam session. As such, two tracks on the album are snippets of audio taken from a live runthrough of the band's instrumental known as "The Swamp Song."

In terms of their place in the album, both of these tracks do a fantastic job and setting the scene for the following tracks. The first interlude gives the listener a break before side 2 starts while the second interlude prepares us for the album's climactic ending. However, while these tracks do their job fantastically, they don't really offer much else.

A lot of these kind of instrumental tracks that are normally under a minute just build atmosphere without being able to stand on their own as legitimate tracks, which is probably why the track list on the CD leaves these two tracks empty. While the album itself is a huge triumph, these tracks are the reason that you shouldn't put the album on shuffle.
