Mark Hoppus has said that this is something of a spiritual sequel to Adam's Song, in that it tackles the same topic of depression, but this time with a more specific angle about a kid struggling to deal with his parents' divorce. While not as instantly sobering as Adam's Song, the gut punch of Stay Together For the Kids hits hard in the chorus: "So when you're dead and gone, will you remember this night, twenty years now lost."
