The Doors Top 10 Tracks Of All Time

2. Light My Fire

On The Record If Oliver Stone€™s Doors movie taught us anything, it€™s that the band€™s breakout single was a group effort through and through. Conceived by Krieger, the length of this single €“ seven minutes and counting €“ didn't deter the music-buying public with the track ruling both the airwaves and the charts throughout 1967. Everything about this one clicks into place; from Manzarek€™s iconic keyboard opening, Morrison€™s delivery of the simplest of lyrics, Krieger's intricate playing throughout the track€™s instrumental section all the way up to Densmore corralling us to get lost in the track€™s rousing finale, this is a true showcase of the band€™s individual talent and one that rightly put them on the map. Often covered badly (Will Young and Shirley Bassey, we're looking at you) and occasionally done well (Jose Feliciano), the song€™s influence spans decades and deserves to be cited as one of the best singles of all time. Waxing Lyrical €œYou know that it would be untrue/ you know that I would be a liar/ if I was to say to you/ girl, we couldn't get much higher€ Sung with swagger and cool, these subversive lines saw The Doors rise from their position as darlings of the LA underground to that of the most dangerous band on the planet.
