As The Killers prepared to drive into 2012 to release their fourth album, following a near two year hiatus, they took inspiration from a poem by William Lawrence Chittenden as they released their seventh Christmas song. The Cowboy's Christmas Ball shared its title and a number of lyrics with the Chittenden poem before being put to a rousing, festive ditty. Brandon Flowers has said of this single that it is has been his children's favourite song and that they love to sing along with the video. It's easy to see why this would be the case, of course; the song has a fetching effect on listeners and the video demonstrates a proper cowboy adventure. It may not have all of the bells and chimes of your typical Christmas-song-by-numbers, but it features no less charm or appeal than other classics.
