In 2014, with a second hiatus just about to begin, there were a few questions as to whether or not The Killers would return for their ninth Christmas song or not. Gladly, and with the help of TV host Jimmy Kimmel, the boys did just that and offered fans yet another alternative look at a classic festive tradition. Kids all over the world will no doubt have been teased with the punishment of receiving coal for Christmas should they fail to behave, A cruel fate indeed, but consider the role of the coal in all of that. For The Killers' and Kimmel's titular Joel, it was clearly one heck of a disappointment when he discovered he was not to be a great gift but rather "booby prize". But Flowers & Co manage to turn Joel's tale into one of triumph and redemption as the lump himself finds a way to save Christmas for a sad little boy. It's a heartwarming story, and I'd be lying if I said I ever thought I'd feel so proud and pleased of an animated lump of coal. Kudos to The Killers and Kimmel for turning Joel into Christmas' greatest unlikely hero since Rudolph!
