On the shore of Yanqi Lake, about 60 kilometers from Beijing's city centre, lies the Sunrise Kempinski Hotel, an architectural marvel in the heart of China.

This massive orb-shaped development is a metaphor made from brick, mortar and glass, designed to resemble a rising sun and symbolise the country's emergence as an economic superpower in recent years.

The entrance is shaped like a fish's mouth, representing prosperity, and from a side angle, the hotel resembles a scallop, which symbolises fortune in Chinese culture.
