Deafblind American author Helen Keller is another prominent American who was accused by the FBI of being a Communist. A pronounced political advocate for disability rights, pacifism and suffrage, as well as a former member of the Socialist Party, Keller was tracked by the FBI throughout the 1940s and 1950s - although she was never actively investigated. One FBI file shows that Keller's outgoing messages were even monitored.
