10 Best Stephen King Novels

By Lucas Flanagan /

9. Lisey's Story

If you€™ve followed King€™s career, there€™s one aspect of the man that has increasingly been made more obvious. The man is a romantic. It€™s been evident in the past with stories like The Body, Shawshank and even Pet Sematary but never more so than when he dropped Lisey€™s Story on us in 2006. The novel tells the story of a woman who is the widow of a famous novelist who, while cleaning out her dead husband€™s office, begins to remember their life together all while being stalked by a crazed fan of her husband. It€™s a complicated narrative that tells two stories over the course of the novel. You spend time with Lisey as she cleans her husband€™s office and is stalked by the maniac but most of the novel is spent in the past as she remembers their complicated marriage. It€™s one of the richest stories King has ever told and definitely the most romantic. Being married myself, I have no shame in admitting it made me cry and deepened the love I have for my own wife. This also happens to be King€™s favorite of all the novels he€™s published over the years. Like I said, he€™s a romantic.
