It would have been easy to select Middle Earth as a whole or Mordor if we were going to pick one location from J.R.R. Tolkein's classic universe, but to me, the Elven outpost known as Rivendell is the most visually splendid locale from the books, and the one that would be the most fun to visit. As a serene getaway from the toils of normal life, it's beautiful even by the scenic standards of The Lord of the Rings, characterised by its expansive views (due to being situated in the Misty Mountains), and unique architecture. Though Jackson enhanced the real location shoot with a lot of CGI, the closest you can get to being there is visiting New Zealand's Kaitoke Regional Park, though some commenters suggest that Tolkein originally took the location's likeness from the gorgeous Swiss region of Lauterbrunnental.
