\We're all used to seeing Hollywood's A-list stars carrying out death defying heroic acts - they leap from exploding buildings unscathed, fall hundreds of feet through the air and land safely on their feet while taking down psychopathic villains and creatures from another world as if it's second nature. It's standard blockbuster fare these days, projected onto cinema screens with a predictable regularity. Of course, we all know it's just the illusion of the movies; a far cry from reality. From the safety nets, stuntmen, blue screen backdrops and special effects which augment the fakery to make it look as realistic as possible, we understand that there is no real danger €“ like the vicarious thrill of a rollercoaster ride, we know that everyone will be okay and the actors involved will get to leave the set and return to the comfort of their Hollywood mansions, their hefty paycheck secure in their proverbial back pocket. But every once in a while real-life emergencies come up out of the blue, and whether you're famous or not it's often the moment of truth, where a person has to prove themselves under pressure and step up to the plate. Hollywood stars are by no means exempt from this, and several of them have faced that touch and go predicament of choosing to be a hero or a coward. The ten actors on this list made the right decision, proving that their on-screen heroics can be replicated in real life. A cynic might describe some of these as little more than cheap publicity stunts - but we'll leave the readers to decide for themselves whether or not that's the case.
