We€™ve all done secret santa before €“ pull a name from a hat and buy a gift for that person, someone else will receive your name and so on. Reddit took this simple system and expanded it €“ in 2013 over 85,000 people from 120 countries signed up to send and receive a gift from other users. This makes it one of the planets biggest secret santas. To take part you sign up and will receive a name; the guidelines suggest a $20 maximum on the gift, and they suggest that Redditors go through your recipients Reddit history to find a suitable gift for them. In 2011 they won the Guinness World Record for largest Secret Santa, although they have were recently beaten by a large school. The site is attempting to regain their lost title, with over 184,000 people signed up from over 181 countries taking part, and submissions continuing to rise. If they manage to break the world record everyone involved will receive a certificate confirming that they are a Guinness World Record holder €“ which is pretty cool considering that it is a secret santa where you probably will not know whoever you are buying for.
