5. The Falling Soldier

Play Metallica's 'One' over the top of this image and you'll be transported instantly into the sheer horrors of war. Or, you could just continue reading to realise that this photograph isn't what it may seem. Taken by Robert Capa in 1936, the pic was later accused of being staged by both photographer and 'falling soldier'.

Capa appeared to have captured the harrowing image of a Republican solider being felled by bullets during the Spanish Civil War. The man in question was supposedly anarchist militiaman Federico Borrell GarcĂ­a, but people have had their doubts since the 1970's, with some even claiming that this 'soldier' is wearing civilian clothing and the location wasn't even Spain.

The picture was famous for years, so if real, it's a shame theories have debunked its authenticity in recent times.
