4. Psychic Surgery

Psychic surgery is supposedly the practice of performing invasive surgery without the use of any surgical tools or making any cuts into the skin.

It first came about in the middle of the 20th century in the Spiritualist communities of the Philippines and Brazil and practitioners appear to pull diseased tissue and organs from their patients without causing any surface damage.

It is, however, total rubbish. It has be largely denounced as a conjuring trick by the medical and wider scientific community. The "surgeons" hide animal tissue and blood packs in their palms and pull them out using the blood to disguise the trick.

This would all be very well, if perhaps a little cheap, if it wasn't kinda dangerous. People who claim to have been healed by psychic surgery are usually suffering from symptoms that would clear up on their own anyway, but others who are suffering from chronic or even terminal diseases who seek the treatment of a psychic surgeon will be much less likely to also seek the life-saving medical care they need.

As difficult as it is to believe that some people remain convinced of truth of the claims made by psychic surgeons, but unfortunately, for many people the fact that the scientists disagree with something makes them want to believe it even more.
