6. Constantly Hearing What You Think Is A Skateboard
Youd think the noise of a skateboard wheel rolling down the street would be pretty unique wouldnt you? The truth is, it is emulated by so many things; suitcases, trolleys and scooters all make similar noises. Skateboard wheels make a very distinct noise; clacking as they go over tiny cracks in the pavement. Skaters all love this noise; it makes them feel like true skateboarders. In all honesty, it is perhaps the only downside to Back to the Future's hoverboards; what would skateboarding be without the noise? You might be sitting at home, going shopping or chatting to a friend when you hear that seemingly distinguishable noise. Then youll look over in expectation of seeing a fellow skateboarder, and youll see an old lady with a little shopping trolley, or a student heading home with an oversized bit of luggage. If you are really unlucky youll face the disappointment of seeing a scooter; the seemingly unstoppable plague on skate parks. The sense of community within skateboarding means that we instinctively look to identify people who might be like us; some of us are confident enough to go over and start a conversation on this basis alone, others look just out of curiosity.
