RMS Titanic began her fateful maiden voyage at noon on Wednesday 10th April 1912. None of the 2,224 passengers and crew - all freshly convinced of the vessel's unsinkable nature - could possibly have known then that it would be the last. Those claims were stunningly proved incorrect four days into the journey, at approximately 11:40pm, when she hit an iceberg, which caused watertight compartments to open up into the sea, allowing the ship to gradually fill with water, and be dragged down into the ice-cold depths.
