1. Despite Enjoying A Flutter Henry VIII Banned Gambling

As has already been mentioned, Henry loved all-things competitive, particularly sports, and he enjoyed having a flutter on jousting competitions. He also regularly played card and dice games with his courtiers and subjects for money. In spite of this, however, Henry became concerned that his soldiers and guards were becoming distracted by the amount of time they were spending gambling - including with himself. He therefore outlawed betting, preventing the practice from occurring in his court and out among his military.
