10 UK Place Names Americans Can't Pronounce Correctly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=octisBbfejI&feature=youtu.be The number 1 most difficult word for Americans to say has to be, without a doubt, the city in the West Midlands that's home to the famous cooking sauce. Again, the start of the "cester" ending is left out in the word "Worcester", creating pronunciation mayhem. Our extraordinarily helpful volunteer fared very well on this challenge, getting it right on the second try. But imagine how much worse "Worcestershire" would have been. That's a word that trips up many a person on cookery programmes in the USA, thereby causing untold misery to American celebrity chefs whilst simultaneously providing much amusement to audiences. Anyway, here's how to cope with this pernicious rascal of a word.At the end of filming the video, the volunteer was understandably keen to know how she'd done. Clearly, she did a great job and deserves a big round of applause. And hopefully, she will refrain from killing this particular contributor. A final note before anyone gets the wrong idea and thinks this article is simply bashing Americans: bear in mind, it's only a piece of gentle fun. Besides, if Americans wants to get their own back, that's easy enough. They can simply ask Englishmen how to pronounce Welsh place names, such as Ffwl-y-mwn and Ynysddu. Then they can stand back and enjoy the show, and possibly upload a recording to YouTube. Revenge can be so much fun. Which place names have you had trouble with? Leave your tales of linguistic woe in the comments section. No one will laugh. Honest.
