Back in 1968, Richard Nixon campaigned on a secret plan to get us out of Vietnam. Although get us out of Vietnam he did, the evidence now seems overwhelming that he never had a workable plan to do so before the election. Indeed, he wanted to keep it going a bit for his own political purposes. But Nixon at least had some credibility when he made that statement: as Eisenhower's vice-president, he had no shortage of foreign policy experience. Trump has campaigned on a secret plan to end the threat of ISIS, a "foolproof... method of defeating them quickly and effectively and having total victory." Unfortunately, he can't tell anyone what it is, because then the enemy would find out.
