Wrigley's, having already conquered the fruit-chew market with Starburst (formerly Opal Fruits), launched their own range of jelly beans in the 1990s named Joosters. These sugarific sweets were encased in a hard shell, but contained a strong-flavoured, soft jelly inside once they were bitten into.
