Found: Flea market Value: $33,000,000 Faberge eggs are just about the greatest symbol of wealth an individual can possibly own, so it's little surprise that this golden piece was worth a penny or two. It was bought at a flea market by a scrap-metal dealer, for 'just' $14,000. The man was originally interested purely for its gold content, intending to melt it down and sell to commercial or industrial buyers. After reading up on the eggs though, he began to develop a suspicion that the intact piece itself might actually be worth more. His intuition proved to be correct, and the egg was appraised as a genuine Faberge piece. It was also a particularly valuable example, and he was able to sell it to a private collector for an estimated $33,000,000.
