I€™m not going to deny that these things have a place or a point. However there are moments when these things are being mentioned because they can. So this would be a programme that searches out and destroys these references when they are just increasing the word count. There is the argument that these things can add to a character. If this means that all you wind up with is yet another reference to Star Wars or Twilight, there is an alternative. The programme could instead replace them with a completely different set of references. Instead of the limited pool of references that we are getting, we could have characters suddenly gaining knowledge of Ancient Greek tragedies. I€™m sure there is an academic debate about whether Oedipus stabbed first.
