12 Pieces Of Sci-Fi Tech That We Wish Were Real

8. Babel Fish

Okay, so this one isn't exactly a technology so much as an evolutionary miracle.

The Babel Fish is a small, yellow, leech-like creature that has the amazing ability to translate any language into any other language when it is inserted into the ear.

It wasn't invented exactly as it was supposedly created by God but then went on to prove that God doesn't exist (read the books, it's a bit complicated). It is also responsible for starting more and bloodier wars than any other piece of technology, due tot he fact that everyone could suddenly understand what everyone else was saying about them.

Anyway, whilst we haven't yet discovered a fish that can speak every language in the world, our technological overlords, Google, are having a good old go at breaking down those pesky language barriers.

The current technology can recognise speech, typing and even handwriting and a few different companies are currently working on software that will translate and speak for you in real time.

This is probably a more pleasant route to go down than having to walk around with a fish in your ear
