1. Corned Beef Is Not Eaten On The Emerald Isle On St Patrick's Day... And It's Not Even An Irish Dish

Even though people around the world - and particularly in the USA - on St Patrick's Day will stuff their faces with corned beef and cabbage, there is no evidence at all that is in an Irish dish. Irish immigrants to the USA may have eaten pork and potatoes - as they would have done when they were back in the Emerald Isle - but they certainly did not introduce corned beef to America. It is likely that what actually happened was that Irish immigrants visited Jewish delis and tried cured beef there, and decided to pair it with cabbage because this was cheaper than their traditional pork and potatoes combo. So this most-Irish of dishes is actually as American as Uncle Sam...
