14 Problems Only People From Minneapolis Will Understand

"Oh yah?"

By Nathan Hastings /

What does Minneapolis want to be? It's aware that it€™s no LA, no NYC, no Chicago, and that it won€™t ever get there. Does it see itself as humble and soft-spoken by comparison? Well, it does get a kick out of calling itself €œjust a really big small town," so... And that isn€™t much of a stretch when your population is smaller than Omaha, Nebraska. Maybe elsewhere in the city€™s heart, an area bruised by jokes about weather and bland Scandinavians, Minneapolis wants to embrace its national and global standing. Second-largest economic centre in the Midwest, don't you know? America€™s fifth-highest concentration of Fortune 500 companies! But really, Minneapolis reminds itself, these just further cement its status as runner-up in every arena. And that€™s okay. Because the people who live here? We got problems; just like any other city€™s people got problems. And where there are problems, where there is conflict, there is drama. These things matter to us. So yeah, on a universal human level, we€™re as interesting as any middling big American city. Maybe this is getting a bit theatrical, but that would make sense, given that we have THE MOST live theatre seats per capita in the country. Well, except for New York. Let€™s hear about these problems.
