First spotted adorning the smiley-burned arms of grunge kids, shag bands soon found their way into the playground and eventual notoriety courtesy of some fretful stories in the press. The gist of these rubbery accessories was this: if you break somebody's band then you're obligated - as dictated in the playground code - to perform whatever act that particular band is associated with. This ranged from a hug (yellow), making out (purple) all the way to bumping uglies (black). This would have been a kinky treat to play, if the bands weren't solely worn by pre-teens. An accessory best forgotten.
