This time of year, it seems like folks are more interested in getting gifts than giving them. Every single online shop seems to have a want list, wish list, "add it to your cart for next time option," while good old brick and mortar shops are just sell, sell, sell. For the online side, blame Amazon's wishlist if you really want, but the trend started well before that. "Here are some great gift ideas for me" is the opening of a letter folks simply don't need. Frankly, you're lucky you're not getting a lump of coal. There's no doubt these sorts of lists come with good intentions - giving something useful should be more rewarding than giving some piece of crap no one wants, after all. However, don't you don't miss the good old days when people were just happy to get a gift, period?
Maybe it's time to blame all the kids who watched Scrooge McDuck growing up.
