6. Matterhorn Bobsleds Was The World's First Steel Coaster

Walt Disney came up with the idea for the Matterhorn Bobsleds watching "Third Man on the Mountain" whilst on vacation in Europe. Disney had been looking for a thrill ride for his new park and was inspired by the movie and an article about wild-mouse style coasters.

The attraction was the world's first steel tracked coaster when it opened in 1959 as part of a Tomorrowland expansion.
