The original board, designed by Elva Pratt, had 11 rooms, 10 characters and 9 weapons. These were whittled down, with rooms such as the "Gun Room" being removed for being too elitist and unrelatable (whereas, of course, everyone has a conservatory). Eventually, they settled on the standard 9 room board (though certain editions have expansion options).
