4. Nothing Is Ever Any Better Than €œAlright€

People who live in Sheffield are, true to the stereotype, unfailingly more friendly than the lower half of England. They're polite, helpful, and will chat to basically anyone. Their enthusiasm for their fellow South Yorkshire residents isn't quite matched by the level of enthusiasm afforded by their vocabulary, however. If you suffer from low self-esteem, living in Sheffield isn't going to help all that much. To a person from Sheffield, nothing is ever better than €œalright€. Which isn't to suggest they're gloomy €“ €œalright€ is the Sheffield equivalent of €œamazing€, €œbrilliant€, or any other more hyperbolic statement. A beautiful sunset is €œalright€. Scientific breakthroughs are €œalright€. Winning the lottery? Yeah, that'd be alright, wouldn't it?
