20 Problems Only People From South Wales Will Understand
20. Welcome To South Wales - That Will Be £6.50 Please
Coming into Wales on the M4, you have a choice of bridges to take, the slightly older white suspension bridge above or the even more impressive grey concrete bridge that takes you over the Severn Estuary. The views are impressive as you cross the waters separating England for Wales. But then you get hit with a toll. £6.50 if you're in a car, £13.10 if you're a small goods vehicle and £19.60 for heavy goods vehicles.
The toll has been rising with inflation every year. For cars, it began as £3.80 in 1996 and has nearly doubled since then. And it is only going to increase. Which might be okay if you are only visiting South Wales, but what if you live there? What if you live in Cardiff or Newport and have to commute to Bristol and back every day (as many people often do).
Well don't worry, you can now paid by card or even direct debit, to avoid the hassle of having the exact change. I'm sure that makes people using the bridge regularly feel much better.
