Some say it's become a rite of passage in Warrington. At the age of 10, fathers take their bright-eyed children aside and slowly pass them a sealed envelope. "On the day of your 18th birthday, open it," they say, "what's inside will save your life someday." The kids go upstairs and immediately open the envelope right then of course. Inside is a folded sheet of paper. On the paper are six simple digits: 444444. The child burns the number to memory. 4 years later, with their sibling's fake ID, they use it for the first time. They then pay an extortionate fee.
