20 Problems Only Students Home For The Summer Will Know

12. There Are No Washing Up Fairies

Alan Cleaver / FlickrA stack of washing-up is an eerily familiar sight for any university student. Filthy plates, soiled cutlery and half-full glasses often fill washing-up bowls and cover the entire sink area. The average student kitchen is not a nice place to be at all. It's also not helped by the fact that there's always at least one housemate who flatly refuses to tidy up after themselves when they prepare food. This however is all fine, because eventually someone will crack and clean the kitchen from top to bottom, replacing mould-infested cups and plates with gleaming, fit-for-use ones. Unfortunately for students, the situation at home is usually a lot different, as there are certain expectations, and even worse since you've been missing in action for a long time, it often falls to you to make up for lost time by scrubbing up everyone's plates. Your system simply will not be able to handle this.

11. There Isn't Always Alcohol In The House

Twentieth Century FoxStudents always have alcohol in the house. It's not always top quality stuff and it usually finishes the night in and around the toilet bowl, but they definitely have it. Food and water is optional in student accommodation, but cheap booze is an entirely essential commodity. Alcohol is a lot harder to come by at home. There might be a few cans about, but the university array of spirits, shots and bottles does not transfer back to the average family environment. That's not to mention the fact that your parents are probably still adjusting to the fact that the person whose nappy they once changed is now old enough to legally consume intoxicating beverages.
