Having someone try to kill you sort of goes with the territory of being a dictatorial ruler - but surviving 634 assassination attempts is definitely impressive. Although this figure is completely unsubstantiated, Castro has claimed the CIA and many other spy agencies have tried to kill him several-hundred times - using methods including a toxic cigar, poisonous pills, exploding molluscs, powder to make his beard fall out and even a chemical-ridden diving suit!
