20. Black Spider-Man

Spider-Man is a pretty unforgiving option for anyone without the kind of body that would get them a contract selling aftershave or underwear on billboards, and the combination of lycra and even the slightest paunch is a good way to ruin the image of the character. And yet, men with what could conservatively be called rotund figures tend to gravitate towards Spidey, imagining themselves swinging care-free through the sky on the end of a rope of silk and leaping between buildings with arachnid dexterity. The reality of course, is that they look like Humpty Dumpty in his Spider-Man pyjamas, even when they're going for the cooler, dark Spidey look.

19. Everyday Spider-Man

At least the cosplayer above went for a fairly official looking costume - this distinctly home-made looking version makes the inappropriately proportioned physique beneath it seem even more out of place, and there's definitely no way Peter Parker would even have dabbled with smoking. If you can't have a perfect costume, you can at least claw back some points by sticking firmly in character while you're in it, but that doesn't seem to have mattered to the casual cosplayer above, who looks a lot like the sting in the tail for Parker when his superhero work starts to dry up and MJ finally loses all interest in him.
