It's mid-evening. You've been to the off-license and bought a suspiciously cheap litre of vodka. You've showered, changed, changed again, and invited everyone round for a big session before the night out. You are unspeakably excited. Pre-drinks are a strange beast. They're not quite a house party, but they're not quite a night out. They're a sort of alcoholic purgatory where nothing makes sense. There are umpteen conversations going on at once, every surface is rapidly becoming stickier, and everybody is a different level of drunk. There's nothing in the world quite like them. Here are 20 unmistakable features of every pre-drinking event.
20. Sober Small-Talk
This is undoubtedly the most awkward part of every pre-drinks. You're all here for one goal - to get drunk - and it's not happened yet. Panic sets in pretty much immediately. Laughs are forced, silences are suffered through. Everybody drinks faster. This stage thankfully never lasts very long, but it can make the start of a night out stretch on forever.
19. Girls Will Be Extremely Surprised To See Each Other
They might have seen each other earlier that day. They might even live in the same house. That doesn't matter though - the arrival of a new girl into the pre-drinking area will be greeted with shrieks of surprise and excitement. She will be swamped with hugs and told she looks AMAZING. Boys, in return, must be completely unenthusiastic. Grunts and casual insults are exchanged instead.
