Unlike McDonald's locations throughout the rest of the world, those in India are especially unique by virtue of the fact that they serve neither beef nor pork products. As a result, they have to get extra creative to appeal to the local cuisine, yielding such results as the McCurry Pan. This dish is inspired by mince pies, and features chicken (optional), cheese, a creamy sauce, and a mix of curried broccoli, baby corn, mushrooms, and red bell pepper, all served in an edible bread bowl. Unfortunately, the item didn't last at the regular locations, but the meat-free version has instead been used to help anchor the line of vegetarian-based restaurants McDonald's has sought to open throughout the country, particularly in areas which feature heavy pilgrimage. "A vegetarian makes absolute sense in the places which are famous as pilgrimage sites," McDonald's India spokesperson Rajesh Kumar Maini told The Week. Of course, vegetarians (and people from India) exist beyond those borders, so perhaps this dish has a broader appeal?
