I loved 2013. And I might be alone there: I might be the only person on the planet sentimental enough to feel affection for long stretches of the Gregorian calendar. But this year has been flipping impressive, considering the world ended twelve months. And so much of 2013 feels a lifetime away. Can you believe that it was only this year that we found horses in our lasagne? Can you believe that Beyonce's mime performance for Obama and her barnstorming recent album happened in the same twelve months? It really has been an incredible 2013; we've lost great leaders, discovered new faces and celebrated everything from a royal baby, to Ron Burgundy. And don't worry, I haven't created a gif of someone eating a horse burger. 25. Ferguson And Beckham Retire
In an emotional year for a lot of Manchester United fans, two heroes of the club stepped down from football. Beckham made news at the start of the year when he signed for his last club, Paris Saint Germain, giving all his wages to a children's charity. He retired in May, bawling his eyes out when he was substituted, and received a rapturous response from the PSG fans, there to wave him goodbye. Ferguson's decision however seemed to come out of nowhere, and in United's last home game, he took to the pitch to thank the fans for support of over 25 years, urging them to get behind new boss David Moyes. Football's certainly quieter without the both of them.
