17. Andy Murray Wins Wimbledon

We thought we'd never see the day, but Andy Murray won Wimbledon. Yes, the first Brit since Virginia Wade, and the first male since Fred Perry - you know, him off the clothes - Andy clinched the Wimbledon title in an incredible three sets against top seed Novak Djokovic, cementing his Sports Personality title almost simultaneously. Let's hope we don't see another World War before the next British male winner.

16. Arctic Monkeys And Co Storm Glastonbury

One of the bands of the year, the Arctic Monkeys from High Green, Sheffield released one of the records of 2013, headlined Glastonbury for the second time - alongside Mumfords and the Stones - and redefined what their band meant to so many fans. The album, 'AM', was critically acclaimed across the board, with both Q and NME naming it their records of the year. Pitchfork however chose Vampire Weekend's 'Modern Vampires of the City' as their number one, and the Guardian went for electronica genius Jon Hopkins with 'Immunity'. Both 'Immunity' and 'AM' eventually lost the Mercury Prize to James Blake's 'Overgrown', and in other British music news, Biffy Clyro headlined Reading festival.
