Christmas is fast approaching, and it's nearing the time that most people will at least start thinking about preparing for festivities. There's presents to buy, advent calendars to open, turkeys to order and, of course, decorations to put up. Putting up decorations at Christmas time is a time-honoured tradition that has existed for centuries. Most famously, the Christmas tree originates from old Pagan rituals surrounding the winter solstice, and a Christianization of the Pagan tree worship. The word 'Christmas tree' originates from the German language, with the first ever example of it in the English language recorded in 1835. Other popular Christmas decorations include hanging mistletoe, colourful lights, snowmen, and tinsel. Among more traditional homes, a nativity scene is also common, representing Jesus Christ's place of birth in Bethlehem. Advent wreaths, Advent candles and angel figures are also seen as more religious types of decoration during the holiday season. Of course, putting up decorations for Christmas doesn't always go to plan. From the dog eating tinsel, to having lights that just won't switch on, everyone's had their fair share of Christmas stress. In celebration of the upcoming festive season, we've put together a collection of truly horrific Christmas decoration disasters in an adaptation of a song you might be familiar with. Feel free to sing along! On the twenty-first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...
