2. Doyle Ran For Parliament But Lost Both His Election Attempts
A staunch Liberal Unionist - a party which had broken from the traditional Liberal Party - Conan Doyle stood for Parliament twice but was defeated on both occasions. His first attempt was in his home city of Edinburgh in 1900 and his second in the Scottish Borders seat of Hawick Burghs in 1906. During the Edinburgh election, Conan Doyle stood against traditional Liberal Party candidate CM Brown, who returned 3,028 votes to his 2,459.
