24 Problems Only Bar Managers Will Understand

6. There Is Never, Ever Enough Change

Your tills are floated to the exact amount and proportions every day, and the change box has the exact proportion of bagged coins it always does. Yet even on a reasonable night, all of that precious equilibrium will vanish in what seems like minutes, to leave you with the odd baggie of 5ps and the prospect of making change in coppers. Where does it all go?! Most of it isn't even legal tender at large amounts - 1p and 2p coins aren€™t legal tender in amounts over 20p, the 5p and 10p piece isn€™t legal tender in amounts over £5.00, and the 20p and 50p coin likewise in amounts over a tenner. Becoming change for notes is literally what these coins are designed for€ but no matter how many trips to the bank you make before opening up, you€™ll start running short at some point that evening. It€™s like there€™s a singularity nearby sucking up coins.
